hello, hello!!
i assume you are here because like me, you love food but your body rejects gluten. so here we are. stuck with all of our favorite recipes. i'm here to TRYYYY to make your life easier!
i've been gluten free for two years now. it has been the ride of my life. during those two years i have tried multiple recipes & products. so i will review products, share recipes & give tips on things i've learned.- GET TESTED. if you sense you are celiac before you go gluten free you NEED to get tested. i cannot stretch that enough! i didn't and i get so sick off one crumb, it scares the crap out of me to even think of eating gluten again.
- READ LABELS. anything with wheat, flour, gluten, barley, rye, malt, maltodextrin. if it's made in a factory with gluten DO NOT EAT IT!
- GLUTEN FREE CERTIFIED is BEST. always.
- GOOGLE EVERYTHING. Facebook groups are your best friend. find a support group. i am the only one who eats GF in my family and they just don't get it, and that's OKAY.
- SPICES are your friend! i LOVEEEE herbamare. it is about the only thing i use nowadays, it helps with the taste!
- CROSS CONTAMINATION at home. if you live with other non-gf people that share butter & mayo jars, you need to get your own and label them. there is hidden gluten in there if they double dip their knife after they use it on their bread.
- CROSS CONTAMINATION at restaurants. okay, this isn't one that covers all restaurants but you HAVE to ask about fries & the fry oil. ask for a GF or look it up on your phone, my iPhone has never been of more use.
- OATS. you must be careful. some people can handle non-gf oats. i can't. Bob's Red Mill makes GF oats and that is what i buy.
- get the Find me Gluten Free app on your phone and your life will be SO MUCH EASIER!
let me know if i missed anything! send me some of your favorite recipes / what you are craving and i will see what i can do.
XOXO,
kourtney
